Amazon Ending FBA Prep Services UK 2026 – What Sellers Must Do Now

If you’re an Amazon FBA seller in the UK, there’s a major change coming that you cannot afford to ignore.
From 1 July 2026, Amazon UK will officially discontinue its in-house FBA Prep Service entirely. That means every single unit you send into an Amazon fulfilment centre must arrive fully labelled, prepped, and compliant before it leaves your hands — or face delays, rejected inventory, additional fees, or returns.
This isn’t a minor policy tweak. For thousands of UK sellers who have relied on Amazon to handle prep at the fulfilment centre level, this is a fundamental shift in how you’ll need to operate.
What Is Amazon’s FBA Prep Service — and Why Is It Disappearing?
Amazon’s FBA Prep Service has long been a safety net for sellers. For a per-unit fee, Amazon would take care of tasks like FNSKU labelling, poly bagging, and bubble wrapping at the fulfilment centre, saving sellers from having to arrange prep themselves before sending stock in.
It was convenient — but it came at a cost, and it created inconsistency. Amazon is now pushing sellers toward a fully “inventory-ready” model, where every item arrives at the FC already prepared to Amazon’s exact standards. The shift mirrors changes already implemented in the US market, where Amazon ended FBA prep services from 1 January 2026.
The message is clear: Amazon wants clean, compliant inbound inventory — and they’re no longer willing to do the prep work for you.
What Exactly Changes on 1 July 2026?
From the deadline date, Amazon will no longer provide any of the following at UK fulfilment centres:
FNSKU label application — you must apply labels before sending
Poly bagging — products requiring poly bags must arrive bagged
Bubble wrapping — fragile items must be wrapped before inbound
Bundling or multipack creation — all bundles must be pre-made
Any other item-level prep service
If inventory arrives at an Amazon FC without proper prep, it risks being refused, returned, or disposed of — all at your expense.
Who Does This Affect?
This change affects virtually every FBA seller in the UK, but the impact varies depending on your current setup:
Private Label Sellers — If your supplier or manufacturer already applies labels and preps units before shipping, you may be less affected. However, you’ll need to audit your current supplier prep standards against Amazon’s requirements.
Wholesale Sellers — Wholesale stock typically arrives in bulk from distributors without Amazon-specific prep. You’ll need a reliable prep solution in place before sending anything into FBA.
Online Arbitrage Sellers — This is arguably the group most affected. OA sellers often ship directly from retailers to Amazon. With prep services gone, every item needs to be intercepted, labelled, and prepped — typically at a third-party prep centre — before it can go to Amazon.
Retail Arbitrage Sellers — Similar to OA, RA sellers will need to factor prep into their workflow either in-house or via a third party.
The Risk of Doing Nothing
Some sellers may think they can figure this out closer to the deadline. That’s a risky approach. Here’s why acting now matters:
Good prep centres are filling up fast. As awareness of this change spreads, the best UK prep centres are onboarding new clients quickly. If you wait until June, you may find limited availability or rushed onboarding.
Your cash flow depends on inventory velocity. Delays caused by non-compliant inbound shipments directly impact how quickly your stock goes live and starts generating revenue.
Account health is at stake. Repeated issues with inbound compliance can flag your seller account and affect your standing with Amazon.
Your Options After 1 July 2026
You broadly have three choices:
1. Prep In-House
If you have warehouse space and staff, you could set up your own prep operation. This gives you full control but comes with overhead costs — space, labour, equipment, and time. For high-volume sellers this can make sense, but for most small to mid-size sellers it’s not the most efficient route.
2. Use a Supplier or Manufacturer
Some sellers work with suppliers who are willing to apply FNSKU labels and prep units before dispatch. This can work well for private label, but it requires your supplier to understand and consistently meet Amazon’s prep standards — which isn’t always straightforward.
3. Use a Third-Party FBA Prep Centre
For the vast majority of UK sellers, partnering with a dedicated FBA prep centre is the most practical, scalable, and cost-effective solution. A quality prep centre handles receiving, labelling, poly bagging, bundling, and carton packing on your behalf — with fast turnaround times and full Amazon compliance.
What to Look for in a UK FBA Prep Centre
Not all prep centres are created equal. Before committing, here’s what you should be asking:
Do they have a client portal or WMS? You should be able to track inbound deliveries, view live stock levels, and submit outbound orders without chasing emails.
What are their turnaround times? Fast inbound booking and outbound dispatch are critical to keeping your inventory moving.
Can they handle your prep types? Labelling is the baseline — but check they also support poly bagging, bundling, bubble wrapping, and multipack splitting.
Do they have experience with Amazon compliance? FBA has strict packaging and labelling requirements. Your prep centre needs to know them inside out.
Is pricing transparent? Look for clear per-unit pricing with no hidden fees, and ask about volume discounts as you scale.
Do they offer API or system integrations? If you’re building out your own workflows, an API connection can significantly streamline your operation.
